Fall Semester: Week 2

This week our Great Gem is "Preparation"

A good musician is prepared and brings all the necessary materials to their lesson.  They practice every day and prepare their piece for their teacher.  Get extra jewels this week if you come Prepared.

We will being playing Canon Blast this week!  A fun game where students pretend to blast ships out of the water by matching note names and intervals to the correct ship.

In the month of September, students can earn bonus jewels for completing extra theory work, found in their folder.  Students may turn in 3 sheets a week to earn 3 extra jewels.  The worksheet will be graded and students must fix any mistakes before receiving credit.

First Week of Lessons

We had a great week of lessons.  Most students reviewed some pieces and got some new ones as well.  Each student got a folder with their new pirate treasure map!  We will plot their journey on this treasure map.

In each packet there was also sections for Sight Reading, Rhythm and Theory.  Students will complete these exercises each week during lesson time.  When a student completes 5 exercises, they will get 3 bonus jewels!

Some students also took home their drill cards.  Students are working on these specific notes, chords or keys to improve their reading.  Students can practice naming the notes and chords during the week to improve their reading skills.  The student has mastered the card when they get 10 stickers on one card.  Then they get 3 bonus jewels for mastering a card!

We are also focusing each week on a "Great Gem of the Week"

This week's gem was Focus.  We talked about being focused during the lesson.  Keeping our hands on our lap between songs.  Listening to the directions of the teacher and not getting distracted.  If the student displayed Focus during the lesson they received a bonus jewel.
